Lock, Take, and Hide

Public Awareness Program

An awareness program to help reduce the number of auto thefts and auto burglaries throughout the community

Lock, Take and Hide is a public awareness program that began in downtown Dallas in the fall of 2001.  The Hobbs Police Department has brought this initiative to our community.

While the Hobbs Police Department has tried other awareness programs related to auto burglary and auto theft, only a few have been effective. The decrease of these types of property crimes within our community continue to be one of the police department's goals.  We feel that the Lock, Take and Hide program will be effective in communicating the need for citizens to LOCK their cars, TAKE their keys and HIDE their belongings.  The large majority of auto thefts occur when people leave their vehicles unsecured and expensive belongings in plain sight.

The Hobbs Police Department encourages business owners, apartment complexes and shopping centers throughout Hobbs to place the Lock, Take and Hide signs in various areas throughout their property.

Officers have already begun handing out paper storefront signs to businesses within our community in addition to having metal outdoor signs available for purchase from the police department.  These weatherproof metal signs can be placed on light poles and used to remind drivers entering parking lots to "LOCK, TAKE and HIDE".

The price is free to anyone wishing to obtain a metal sign.

Please contact Crime Analyst Mike Stone at 505-397-9381 for more information on the program or to order a sign.
